Pastor Rob Bell is causing plenty of debate in religious circles with his new book, Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived.
The publisher, HarperOne, describes the book: “In Love Wins, Bell addresses one of the most controversial issues of faith — the afterlife — arguing that a loving God would never sentence human souls to eternal suffering. With searing insight, Bell puts hell on trial, and his message is decidedly optimistic — eternal life doesn’t start when we die; it starts right now. And ultimately, Love Wins. What if the story of heaven and hell we have been taught is not, in fact, what the Bible teaches? What if what Jesus meant by heaven, hell, and salvation are very different from how we have come to understand them?”
Priests and preachers have been warning their followers about hell for centuries; believe, follow, and obey, or else.
Alternatively, other spiritual teachers speak of the importance of self-responsibility; when you understand the concepts of karma and reincarnation, you realize that everything comes back to you, so you are more likely to treat others as you would like to be treated, even when no one is looking.
The most respected past life regression therapists, and Michael Newton, a pioneer in life-between-life therapy, have found no evidence of hell in any of their tens of thousands of regression sessions. If you experience a past life or life-between-life session, you’ll see for yourself that your actions in the distant past, not a judging God, have determined the circumstances of your current lifetime, just as your actions in this life will influence your future lives. It’s all up to you.
