“All it takes is one moment of vulnerability to get slipped into your addiction. It’s not a choice. Nobody chooses to use. He didn’t choose to die. It was the disease. It can creep up on you at any moment. It only takes one moment of relapse to potentially die. It’s really scary, but I’m really hoping that from this, people are able to see this is a very, very, very dangerous disease.” Demi Lovato on Cory Monteith’s overdose death.
I agree that some people are more prone to addiction. However, they also have free will to take responsibility for their actions, get help and remain clean. Portraying addicts as helpless victims is part of the problem.
Unfortunately, the spiritual aspects of addiction are mostly ignored. In my opinion, it’s much harder to remain clean if you only address the problem with conventional thinking.
I’ve found in my work that addiction usually started lifetimes ago, not in this life. Also, the more addicted someone is to anything, the more likely it is that they are not only using for themselves, but many entities on-board too, which may include dark energy that feeds off of souls that are compromised due to drug use or other reasons.
This related article is about nicotine addiction but the information also applies to other addictions.
