In a recent interview in the June/July issue of Esquire magazine, Brad Pitt reflected on his days of hard living. “For a long time I thought I did too much damage — drug damage. I spent years f–king off,” he said. “But then I got burnt out and felt that I was wasting my opportunity.”
About 10 years ago he made a “conscious change.” “It was an epiphany — a decision not to squander my opportunities,” he said. “It was a feeling of, ‘Get up.’ Because otherwise, what’s the point?”
Good for Brad for turning his life around.
You may not have the opportunity to be a famous actor, but you incarnated, as do all souls, with unique opportunities. You have free will to make the most of them and triumph, or throw them away and have to return again and again until you get it right.
Drug use and alcohol abuse are very common ways people squander their opportunities. A long-term, steady diet of excess sugar and junk food can cause similar problems. Even when they’re not under the influence, their mind and spirit are so clouded they can’t see clearly and then make poor decisions, or they just don’t have the energy or desire to take action. Even “just casual use” can derail your life and cause you to miss out.
Be grateful for your talents, your skills, all you have, and seize your opportunities. You don’t want to fail your spiritual tests and have to repeat the challenging times, do you?
