You have every right to be offended if someone is rude to you, but we are becoming a culture that is offended by everything.
Whether it’s a photo showing cleavage or a penis print (did that offend you?), facts or figures about race, sexual orientation, religion, or politics, or otherwise simply pointing out the truth about a matter, there’s always someone who is going to complain.
How did it become more acceptable to lie or be politically correct than be honest?
What’s the real reason people find something so “offensive?” Often, it’s all about them. Here are some common reasons:
- Envy of a body that is more fit, less fat, or sexier
- Envy of someone getting more attention
- An assumption that sex or nudity is dirty, wrong, or sacrilegious
- A belief, due to veiled, exaggerated intolerance, that anyone over 50 doesn’t have the right to dress provocatively, even if someone has a better body than most 25 year-olds
- A moral superiority complex
- Envy of wealth or success
- Religious bias and, or intolerance
- A dislike of religion
- Racism
- The race card
- Homophobia
- The homophobia card
- A dislike of men
- A dislike of women
- Political bias and, or intolerance
- An unwillingness to face the truth about a political candidate or the political issue
- An unwillingness to face the truth about a related issue
Part of being spiritual with integrity, along with being self-aware, is acknowledging and accepting the cold, hard truth about yourself, others, and life in general. If you find something offensive, think about what the real reason might be.
