According to research by DrEd.com, Europeans cheat more than Americans.
Almost 70% of American men and 60% of American women claim to have never cheated. 50% of European men and about 35% of European women declare they’ve always been faithful.
As mentioned in the survey results, these numbers are self-reported, which means people are more likely to lie about cheating in a survey.
The same is true with surveys about sexual orientation, number of sexual partners, level of relationship satisfaction, finances, and other private issues; people are obviously not always going to tell the truth, especially when doing so can cause loss of face or much worse.
According to a 2002 study by the University of Massachusetts, 60% of adults lie at least once during a 10 minute conversation with an average of two to three lies.
Did a higher percentage of Europeans admitting to cheating because, in general, they seem to harbor less sexual shame?
Based on my own empirical research and experience as a matchmaker, I suspect that the actual cheating rates are about the same in America and Europe. At least Europeans are more honest about it.
