A new study indicates the porn addiction myth is related to religious guilt. The study looked at the role that religious belief and moral disapproval of porn play in the perceived addiction to internet porn.
The results showed there was a “robust positive relationship between religiosity and perceived addiction to pornography and that this relationship was mediated by moral disapproval of pornography use.”
The findings are related to why some researches call porn addiction a myth.
Some people want you to believe that any viewing of porn is unhealthy or immoral, just like drug abuse.
This stems from a belief that consenting sex between adults, other than between married people and, or for the purpose of procreation, is dirty and wrong.
Even if you don’t share that belief, thanks to societal programming from a young age, you might still harbor subconscious shame or guilt about sex and not even realize it. Such feelings can greatly interfere with performance and enjoyment.
Also, your hidden past life memories can have a huge impact on your sex life.
It’s a good idea to occasionally remind yourself that as long as you’re being respectful, honest, and safe, there’s nothing wrong with consensual sex between adults (even if they are being paid and filmed)!
